After the cozy sweetness of our Snickerdoodle Apple Cobbler, I knew it was time for something rich and chocolaty. This Slow Cooker Chocolate Cobbler is everything you want in a comfort dessert: warm, gooey, and so rich it only takes a small bowl to satisfy your sweet tooth.
This cobbler recipe is easy to make, no mixing bowls full of batter, no precise measurements to stress over, no watching the oven. Just pure, hands-off simplicity that results in a dessert with a delicious cakey top and a pudding-like chocolate sauce on the bottom.
Why I love this recipe
- It’s impossibly easy. I literally dump everything into my slow cooker, sprinkle the topping, and walk away.
- The texture is incredible. I’m obsessed with how the top bakes up thick and cakey while the bottom stays saucy and spoon-able. It’s like getting two desserts in one.
- Kids and adults both love it. I’ve never had anyone turn down a bowl of warm chocolate cobbler. It’s a guaranteed crowd-pleaser every single time.
Ingredients
- all-purpose flour
- boiling water
- white granulated sugar
- whole milk
- salted butter
- cocoa powder
- vanilla extract
- vanilla ice cream
Equipment
Step by step
- Add all the ingredients to the crockpot, EXCEPT 2 cups of sugar and ½ cup of cocoa powder. Stir everything until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, mix the remaining 2 cups of sugar and ½ cup of cocoa powder until fully blended.
- Sprinkle this cocoa mixture evenly over the top of the ingredients in the crockpot.
- Cover and cook on high for 3 to 4 hours, or until the top is firm.
- Serve warm with a scoop of ice cream, if you like, and enjoy!

Tips for Best Results
- Always cook on high heat – Low heat just doesn’t produce the same texture, so stick with high for the best slow cooker chocolate cobbler.
- Don’t panic about the appearance, the top will look very dark (and possibly burnt) when it’s done, but I promise it’s just the deep chocolate color coming through.
- Let it sit for a few minutes before serving – This helps the layers set up just a bit more, making it easier to scoop.

Serving suggestions
I love serving this chocolate cobbler straight from the crockpot while it’s still warm. A scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream makes it even more indulgent. It’s also delicious with fresh berries on top to balance the sweetness.
Storage
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days. To reheat, scoop out individual portions and warm them in the microwave for a few seconds before serving.
You can also freeze portions for up to three months. Just thaw and reheat when that chocolate craving hits.
