Why I love this recipe

  • With just a few ingredients and minimal prep time, these mummy hot dogs come together in no time.
  • They are perfect for themed parties and are a hit with kids who love anything a little spooky just like our cherry vanilla vampire poke cake.
  • They can be baked in the oven or cooked in the air fryer.

Ingredients

hot dogs, crescent rolls dough, and eyeball candies on white plates
  • crescent dough – stick with Pillsbury brand for best results
  • hot dogs – we use all beef but you can try pork, chicken, turkey dogs, or even vegetarian hot dogs; choose a thicker-sized hot dog for the best final appearance
  • edible candy eyeballs

Step by step

  1. Preheat the oven or air fryer to 350Β°Fahrenheit.
  2. Unroll the crescent roll dough sheet and separate it into triangles.
  3. Using a knife or pizza cutter, slice each triangle into thin strips (about 1/4 inch wide).
  4. Take one hot dog and start wrapping it with a crescent roll strip, leaving a small gap for the face. Continue wrapping until the hot dog is covered, resembling a mummy.
  5. Repeat with the remaining hot dogs and crescent roll strips.
  1. Place the wrapped hot dogs in the air fryer basket or on a baking sheet, making sure they are not touching each other.
  2. Air fry for 5-7 minutes or bake for 13-17 minutes until the crescent rolls are golden brown and cooked through.
  3. Remove the mummy dogs from the air fryer and let them cool slightly.
  4. Place the edible eyeballs in the gap you left for the face. If needed, you can use a tiny bit of mustard or ketchup to help the eyeballs stick.
  5. Serve the mummy dogs warm with your favorite dipping sauces like ketchup or mustard.

Tips for Best Results

  • Don’t Overcrowd: Make sure the mummy hot dogs aren’t touching in the air fryer to ensure even cooking.
  • Adjust Cooking Time: Keep an eye on them, as air fryer models may vary slightly.
  • Use Fresh Dough: For the best wrapping and texture, use fresh crescent roll dough.

Variations

Try using different types of dough, like pizza dough or puff pastry, for a different flavor and texture.

You can also add a slice of cheese before wrapping the hot dogs for a gooey surprise inside.

Storage

Place any leftover mummy hot dogs in an airtight container and refrigerate them for up to 3 days. To bring back their crispiness, reheat them in the air fryer or oven for a few minutes. If you prefer, you can also use the microwave, though the texture might not be as crispy.

You can freeze the mummy dogs before or after baking. Freeze in a single layer on a plate or baking sheet then transfer to a freezer bag. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator or, if unbaked, simply extend the baking time 5-10 minutes.
