Old fashioned cream cheese mints are known by a variety of names: cream cheese butter mints, baby shower mints, wedding mints. Whatever you call them, you’re going to love these easy to make and absolutely delicious treats!

I make my cream cheese mints without butter and they turn out almost like the middle of a peppermint patty. My family LOVES these little mints and they usually last only a day or two!

Why I love this recipe

  • easy to make
  • no bake
  • simple, common ingredients
  • can be customized with food coloring or sprinkles for different occasions like bridal showers, pastel colors for baby showers, etc

If you would like to use food coloring to color your mints I recommend adding gel food coloring to the mint mixture as it is more concentrated than the liquid food coloring. If I color the dough, I usually just roll the mints in granulated sugar instead of sprinkles.

Ingredients

  • cream cheese (of course!)
  • powdered sugar
  • peppermint extract
  • milk
  • sprinkles (optional)

Note: Peppermint extract can be strong, start with the measurement in the recipe card below, then adjust to taste if you would like it stronger.

Tips for Best Results

  • You can make these Christmas mints with other flavors like peppermint extract, spearmint extract, peppermint oil, or even try other extracts like almond, lemon, cherry, or orange! It’s a fun recipe to experiment with.
  • You can use candy molds to shape these candies. You may want to lightly dust the molds with powdered sugar to prevent sticking to the molds if they are not flexible enough to “pop” the candies out once hardened.
  • If you find the dough sticky, add more powdered sugar 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing by hand, until it is no longer sticky and can be easily rolled into balls.

Storage

Store these in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to serve. They will last 2 weeks in the fridge.

These mints freeze very well! Store in a freezer bag or freezer-safe container up to 9 months. Storing them with layers separated by parchment paper can prevent sticking.
