I love a good football spread. Ours always includes some sort of warm melty dip like crack corn dip or slow cooker spinach artichoke dip.  There will be a creamy chipotle ranch dip for veggies and to take the edge off sweet chili sauce wings.

Sometimes, I will make apple jelly meatballs, which are gobbled up in minutes. But this year, I’ve found a recipe that may just give my meatballs a run for their money: tangy lil’ smokies made in the crock pot!

Why I love this recipe

I’m not sure what magical ingredient is added to these Lil Smokies, but there are never any leftovers at any potluck or party.  You will end up with an empty crock pot every time! They are tangy and sweet and irresistible!

Ingredients

  • cocktail sausages – beef or beef and pork, found near the hot dogs in the grocery store
  • grape jelly
  • yellow mustard

Step by step

  1. Add the cocktail wieners, jelly, and mustard to a slow cooker and stir to mix.
  2. Heat on high 2 hours or low heat 4 hours.

You can make these on the stovetop if you are in a hurry, simply add all of the ingredients to a small saucepan and simmer until heated through, stirring often.

Variations

You can experiment with the flavor of your cocktail weenies by switching up the ingredients:

  • substitute honey mustard for the yellow mustard
  • change the jelly flavor
  • add a little brown sugar if you prefer them on the sweeter side

Serving suggestions

You can transfer the little smokies to a bowl or serving dish or leave them in the slow cooker to keep them warm. Whether speared on a bamboo pick or tucked in soft Hawaiian rolls, these crockpot little smokies are a great party appetizer or game-day snack.

Storage

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat in the crock pot, on the stovetop, or in the microwave.
