Banana pudding fluff is one of those “bring it anywhere” desserts. Potluck? Perfect. Holiday table? Always welcome. I like serving it in cups so people can just grab one and snack away. It also doubles as my kids’ go-to “sneaky fridge snack” when no one’s looking.
Why I love this recipe
I love how quickly this comes together. Just mix, chill, and dig in.
It gives me all the nostalgic vibes of the classic banana pudding but in a fun new form. Instead of layering the pudding, ‘nilla wafers, and bananas in a dish, it’s all combined in a fun fluff salad! I also love that it’s one of those recipes I can whip up last minute for parties and get-togethers.
Ingredients
This dessert comes together in 10 minutes with just a few simple ingredients, but it’s packed with flavor. You’ll be amazed at how easily everything blends together!
- banana cream instant pudding mix- make sure you choose INSTANT pudding
- bananas – ripe but not overly so, we want them sweet but not too soft
- whipped topping – store bought cool whip is best for this recipe, sugar-free is fine
- sour cream – adds a bit of tang!
- mini marshmallows – these are what makes a fluff salad so distinctive!
- mini Nilla wafers or break traditional Nilla into pieces
If you want to add garnish to make it extra pretty, set aside a few marshmallows, banana slices, and Nilla wafer to add to the top before serving.
Step by step
- Start by peeling and slicing the bananas into rounds. Cut them about ¼ inch thick. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix the whipped topping, sour cream, and dry pudding mix until smooth and fully blended.
- Add the mini marshmallows, vanilla wafers, and sliced bananas. Gently fold into the pudding mixture with a rubber spatula.
- Let it chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour so the cookies will soften and let the flavors come together.
- Before serving, top with extra banana slices, marshmallows, and mini wafers for a nice finishing touch. Enjoy!

Tips for Best Results
- Let the salad rest in the fridge for at least 1 hour. This helps the flavors meld and softens the cookies, just like classic banana pudding.
- Carefully fold the ingredients together to keep the bananas and cookies from breaking down and getting mushy.
- The cookies continue to soften over time so this fluff salad is best enjoyed the same day it is made.
Variations
This recipe is easy to tweak. Try instant vanilla pudding mix instead of banana, or trade the Nilla wafers for graham crackers or shortbread. I’ve even added some crushed pineapple or berries when I had them on hand.
Storage
Keep it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. When possible, eat the same day, as the cookies and bananas will get a little softer as time passes. I don’t recommend freezing this recipe, as it won’t keep that fluffy texture.
