FAQs

What is apple butter?

Apple butter is basically apple sauce that is cooked down with cider and spices (like cinnamon, allspice and cloves) until it is caramelized and super flavorful!

Can I use apple jelly instead of apple butter?

I do not recommend using apple jelly as the taste and consistency is very different than apple butter.

Can I make this from scratch instead of with pancake mix?

Yes, to make this from scratch substitute the pancake mix with a homemade version. This recipe for pancake mix is a good place to start.

Can you freeze apple butter pancakes?

Yes! Freeze the pancakes with parchment paper layered in between. Reheat in the microwave for a fast ready-made breakfast!

How do you store leftovers?

Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

What can I use instead of apple pie spice?

If you do not have apple pie spice, make your own with 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1/8 teaspoon ground allspice, and dash ground cloves or ground ginger.
