I love making fun munch mixes for my boys, and today’s Mayflower munch Thanksgiving Chex mix comes with a bonus history lesson because each of the ingredients represents something about the first Thanksgiving!

Why I love this recipe

This party mix is a great salty and sweet combination. I love that the kids can even make it themselves to help free me up in the kitchen prepping for our Thanksgiving meal.

Don’t like all the add-ins? Try my nothing but Chex mix recipe instead or if you prefer a baked Chex snack, our butterscotch Chex clusters are absolutely delicious.

Ingredients

Thanksgiving snack mix ingredients in bowls on wood table
  • Candy Corn – to represent maize/corn
  • Craisins – to represent the North East where cranberries are grown
  • Pretzel sticks – to represent the forest and the logs used to build homes for the Pilgrims
  • M&Ms – M is for the Mayflower
  • Corn Chex – to represent maize/corn

Step by step

Simply combine all the ingredients in a large bowl and stir to mix! Too easy.

Tips for Best Results

  • As with all munch mixes or cereal snack mixes, you can change up the ingredients to suit your taste.
  • This snack mix stores for up to 2 weeks so you can make it in big batches and always have it on hand to enjoy.

Variations

I think bugles would be a fun addition since they resemble a cornucopia, but you can also add in nuts, use rice Chex or wheat Chex, add pumpkin seeds or raisins, chocolate chips, or even caramel corn.

Serving suggestions

This Thanksgiving snack mix is perfect to put in a big bowl for grazing or package it up in treat bags to gift!
