I love holiday baking. Well, I love sweet treats and the holidays give me an excuse to go crazy in the kitchen! Every year I have to make these Eggnog Cookies at least once. If you’re an eggnog fan like I am, I’m positive they’ll be your new favorite Christmas cookie recipe!

Ingredients

The ingredient list may look on the long side but other than the eggnog, everything else are things you probably already have on hand.

  • all-purpose flour
  • baking powder
  • cinnamon
  • nutmeg
  • butter
  • sugar
  • egg yolks
  • eggnog
  • vanilla extract (may substitute rum extract if you like)
  • powdered sugar

Step by step

This is really a very simple recipe and nearly fail-proof so even the kiddos can help!

  1. Mix the dry ingredients and set aside.
  2. Cream together butter and sugars in a stand mixer or with an electric hand mixer on medium speed.
  3. Add in eggs, vanilla extract, and eggnog.
  4. Add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined.
  1. Scoop the cookie dough onto a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12 minutes.
  2. Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack, then frost with that yummy eggnog icing!

A sprinkle of nutmeg on top finishes them off, don’t they look amazing?!

I know you’re going to love them! If you have any left (they go fast!) store the leftover cookies in an airtight container at room temperature up to 5 days.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cookies:

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3/4 cup salted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1/2 cup granulatetd sugar
  • 3/4 cup dark brown sugar
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup eggnog

For the Icing:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 teaspoons eggnog, plus additional if necessary
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheatt oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with a Silpat or parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl combine flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg, set aside.
  3. In a separate large bowl or stand mixer bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Set mixer to low and add vanilla extract, eggnog, and egg yolks. Add sry ingredientt mixtture a little att a time until just combined.
  4. Scoop dough out with a cookie scoop or tablespoon, placing on the prepared baking sheet 2 inches apart.
  5. Bake for 12-14 minutes or until set in the middle.
  6. Let cookies cool on baking sheet 5 minutes before removing to a wire cooling rack. Allow to cook completely before icing.

For the Eggnog Icing:

  1. Beat butter in a mixer until light and fluffy.
  2. Add vanilla extract and eggnog.
  3. Add powdered sugar a little at a time until it is all combined. If necessary, add additional eggnog one teaspoon at]t a time until the desired consistency is reached.
