I am a big broccoli fan overall whether it is simply sautéed like my favorite Italian broccoli, broccoli salad with dried cranberries, or broccoli casserole with chicken and rice, but when I get the chance to make it even better with the addition of crispy bacon and a decadent creamy garlic sauce and loads of mozzarella cheese….wow! This easy recipe takes broccoli with cheese sauce to a whole new level!

Ingredients
- bacon
- onion
- garlic
- broccoli
- heavy cream
- mozzarella cheese
Step by step with video
- Brown bacon in a large skillet over medium heat. Remove the bacon from the pan and allow to drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Leave the bacon grease in the skillet and add onions. Sauté for 3 minutes or until onions are soft and translucent.
- Add broccoli and garlic cook 3-5 minutes or until broccoli is bright green and fork-tender.
- Reduce heat to low and add heavy cream. Stir and simmer 3-5 minutes or until the sauce is thickened.
- Chop the bacon, then return it to the pan and stir.
- Top with shredded mozzarella cheese. Allow to melt or you can broil in the oven for a minute to melt the cheese.
Variations
- substitute all or part of the mozzarella with parmesan cheese for a slightly different flavor…you could also try provolone, swiss, or even gruyere
- add red pepper flakes to spice it up
- add diced cooked chicken breast to add more protein and make it a full one-pot meal
- Not looking for low-carb and want to make it a main dish? Serve over a bowl of pasta or rice.
Storage
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop at medium heat, stirring often.

- 5 tablespoons minced garlic
- 1 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 pound broccoli florets
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
