If there is a scent that always, always, always makes me happy, it is fresh squeezed lemons!  Those bright yellow fruits just scream, “Cheer up! Life is short!  You’ve got me, now make lemonade!”  So, partner my favorite cheery citrus with perk-me-up peppermint and you have one heavenly combo!  So cue the angels, because you are going to LOVE this easy, DIY uplifting lemon mint sugar scrub!

Lemon mint sugar scrub is a fantastic Mothers Day gift!

Now, true story, I LOVE anything scrubby!  Foot scrubs, face scrubs, hand scrubs, scrubby bath sponges … well, everything except my hubby ;)  I shared a recipe for brown sugar oatmeal scrub with you a while ago, and that scrub is perfect for cold winter months.  But it is SPRING and I wanted fresh and bright, lemon and mint!  Both lemon and peppermint are both scents that lift your mood and promote a sense of well being, so this scrub is a staple in my morning shower.

Lemon mint sugar scrub DIY made with Young Living essential oils!

Make DIY uplifting lemon mint sugar scrub:  In a bowl, mix together 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar, 1/2 cup coconut oil, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, zest from 1/2 lemon, 5 drops of Young Living Peppermint Essential Oil and 5 drops of Young Living Lemon Essential Oil.  The sugar and lemon juice and zest gently sloughs off dry skin, the coconut oil moisturizes and lemon and peppermint provide a mood boost.

This recipe filled three of my 4 oz. quilted mason jars – which is absolutely PERFECT for gift giving!   Since it is quick and easy to make a batch of this lemon mint sugar scrub, it is great to have on hand for last minute gifts – I ran one next door to our neighbor on Easter, just because.

  1. I absolutely LOVE making DIY Scrubs and this one looks FABULOUS!! I can’t wait to make these!! Thanks for sharing:-)

  2. What do you think the shelf life is for these? Can the small jar be keep for a week, a month (in a cool dark spot assuming)? And should the extra be kept in the fridge if you aren’t going to be using it in a week? I’m going to be making some today. Can’t wait to try this :) It’s my first time making it.

    • There is no water in this mixture so it should keep in a cool dark place for at least several weeks. I just cracked open my second jar of this scrub {it’s been a few weeks since I made it} and it looks and smells delicious :)

  3. Olivia says:

I just made a arch of this and it smells amazing! But it is also very runny because of the coconut oil…will this sort of harden up again or should try and pour some out?

    • Hi Olivia – Coconut oil does liquefy at around 76* so it may be thin if it is warm. It should solidify when it cools down. Mine was thin as well, but the sugar was still scrubby and it was super moisturizing! You could add more sugar to thicken it up a bit, too! Thanks so much for stopping by and I’m so glad you tried the sugar scrub!!

  4. Thanks for your post! It was so uplifting and made me want to try the scrub!

  5. Hello!

Was just wondering if the scrub expires because of
The lemon juice or lemon zest.

    Thank you!
    Shayna

    • Hi Shayna,

I still have my little jar by the shower and after several weeks, it is absolutely fine! It may not keep indefinitely, but made in small batches and used, you should not have any issues. Thanks so much for stopping by!

I made your Lemon and Mint scrub last night. I am a Young Living junkie, as well, but added a few more drops of each as it didn’t smell as strong as I would have thought originally. I hate to sound like a dummy here, but could you tell me what DIY stands for? Thanks for this recipe, LOVED it!!
