Hey there sweet things! Get it? Orange vanilla sugar. Sweet things. Right. With Teacher Appreciation Week and Mothers' Day right around the corner, I have a really sweet gift idea for you.
It is easy to make and absolutely adorable when packaged up in a mason jar with a cute hand stamped gift tag!
(Update 2020: I created printable tags for gifting, you can download the labels here.)
How to Make Orange Vanilla Sugar
Real quick, can we talk about the packaging? Something as simple as a round kraft tag + a scrap paper leaf + orange striped bakers twine + a mini clothespin = 1000 on the cuteness scale!
Okay, back to this sugar. Orange zest and orange essential oil give this such a gorgeous citrus scent and flavor. If you don't have clear vanilla extract, scrape the caviar out of a vanilla bean or even use vanilla powder.
How to Use Orange Vanilla Sugar
- This orange vanilla sugar is soooooo delicious stirred into a mug of hot tea. And I'm pretty sure my sweet tea will never be the same.
- Instead of cinnamon sugar, I sprinkled some of this orange vanilla sugar on a piece of toast and it was divine! Little bits of sugared orange zest and the bright taste of orange was pretty delightful!
- It would be awesome sprinkled on roasted carrots and sweet potatoes, too!
Orange Essential Oil is one of my very favorites! I love to diffuse it with Cinnamon or Peppermint. Add it to regular ice water for a refreshing twist. Of course, I use it in my favorite Mason Jar Air Fresheners.

Where do you find clear vanilla?
Keri says
Hi Pat - I should clarify, it is clear artificial vanilla extract. I found it in my grocery store but you can also find it where cake decorating supplies are sold or online.

Hi,
this is probably a silly question but can I substitute the sugar for salt in the scrubs ? I read somewhere that the salt scrubs are better as they don't have to be refrigerated !
All of your sugar scrubs look awesome, thank you for sharing them 🙂

Please note that it is dangerous to use standard essential oils over the counter internally! You need to use certified pure brands - this are doterra and young living! I am certified in aromatherapy and work with oils in my daily work and practice.
