This Strawberry Iced Tea recipe brings together Southern sweet tea and the deliciousness of fresh strawberries. It’s a refreshing summer drink perfect for parties or just relaxing on the front porch.
Why I love this recipe
It’s like sweet tea with a burst of strawberry goodness. The strawberries make the tea taste even better and add a touch of tanginess. You can make it as sweet as you want, and the pink color from the strawberries makes it look great too.
It’s the perfect drink for strawberry season when fresh strawberries are plentiful and inexpensive
The recipe uses simple ingredients – tea bags, fresh strawberries, sugar, and water. No complicated stuff. You can adjust how much strawberry flavor and sweetness you want by adjusting the amount of the homemade strawberry simple syrup you add to the tea.
Whether you’re having a get-together or just relaxing, this iced strawberry tea is a mix of the classic and the new, and it’s going to be your new favorite refreshing drink.
Ingredients
- black tea bags
- sugar
- fresh strawberries
- fresh mint and strawberry slices for garnish (optional)
Step by step
- Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a pot. Once boiling, remove from heat and add the black tea bags. Let the tea steep in the hot water for about 5-7 minutes. Remove the tea bags and allow the tea to cool.
- In a separate medium saucepan, combine the sliced strawberries and granulated sugar along with one cup of water. Heat the mixture to a boil then reduce heat to a simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 15 minutes until the strawberries have softened and released their juices, and the sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and let it cool.
- Strain the cooled strawberry syrup through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove any solids, leaving you with a smooth homemade strawberry syrup.
- In a large pitcher, combine the brewed tea and the strawberry syrup. Stir well to mix.
- Taste the sweet tea and adjust the sweetness by adding more strawberry syrup or sugar or diluting it with more water, as desired.
- Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the strawberry sweet tea over the ice.
- Garnish each glass with a fresh mint leaf and a strawberry slice for a pretty presentation.
Tips for best results
- The recipe references a family-sized tea bag but you can substitute loose tea leaves if that is what you have on hand.
- If you do not have fresh fruit on hand you can substitute frozen strawberries or use a store-bought strawberry syrup for the sugar/strawberry mixture.
- To make it the perfect party drink for the grown-ups, add a splash of vodka to each glass of homemade strawberry tea.
- Add a splash of lemon juice for a strawberry lemonade/strawberry Arnold Palmer variation.
