Why I Love This Recipe

This ham is the epitome of sweet and savory perfection, with succulent ham glazed to perfection with brown sugar and tangy pineapple. It is a super easy recipe, making it extra valuable for special occasion meals when the kitchen can get hectic!

The leftover ham reheats well or can be used to make ham and cheese rolls ups, Cuban cobb salad, or even chicken cordon bleu casserole.

Ingredients

This recipe needs only 3 simple ingredients:

pineapple ham ingredients
  • bone-in spiral cut ham (about 6-8 pounds)
  • brown sugar
  • pineapple slices in juice
ham with pineapple between slices and sprinkled with brown sugar

Step by Step

  1. Prepare the Ham: Place ham in an oven-safe baking dish or roasting pan, flat side down. Arrange the pineapple slices in between the ham slices. Pour the pineapple juice over the ham, then rub the surface of the ham with the brown sugar.
  2. Cook: Cover the ham with aluminum foil and let it cook for 1.5 hours in the oven, basting with the pan juices every 20-30 minutes. The cooking time may vary depending on the size of the ham. You want the ham to heat through and the flavors to meld.
  3. Serve: Once the ham is done cooking, transfer it to a serving platter and let it rest for a few minutes before serving. Serve the slices with the pineapple. You can also garnish with maraschino cherries if desired.

Tips for best results

  • Choose a fully cooked ham to save time and ensure delicious results. I prefer a pre-cooked, bone-in, sprial sliced ham. You can use a boneless ham as well as long as it is fully cooked.
  • Move the rack to the bottom position to maximize your oven space if cooking a very large ham.
  • Don’t discard the pineapple juice – it adds a wonderful flavor to the delicious glaze!
  • For a caramelized finish, broil the ham in the oven for a few minutes after baking.
  • For a more savory ham, try our bourbon ham glaze recipe.

Storage

If you have any leftover ham (which is rare with this crowd-pleaser!), store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.

To reheat, slice the ham and place it in a baking dish with some leftover juices. Cover with foil and heat in a preheated oven at 325°F until warmed through.
