There aren’t many things better than fresh perfect grilled corn! It’s a summer staple. Grilled corn is the perfect side dish for barbecue, grilled grouper, burgers, or just about anything!

Grilling sweet corn is my favorite way to cook it, although I have been known to boil corn on the cob when our south Georgia summers get too blazing hot. Whenever possible I prefer to grill it though. It allows it to cook with the flavor from the garlic butter and it tastes so darn delicious!

Ingredients

  • corn on the cob
  • butter
  • salt
  • ground black pepper
  • garlic powder

Step by step

This is a super easy recipe, it’s almost hard to call it an actual recipe, more of a method! You can prep this fresh corn for a charcoal or gas grill.

seasoned corn on the cob before grilling
  1. Lay out an approximately 18″ pieces of aluminum foil for each ear of corn you plan on grilling. I stack them and work on the top, one at a time.
  2. Shuck the corn and remove the husk and all the silk.
  3. Lay the corn on the foil and rub with a stick of butter to coat. I usually butter the entire cob then season one side at a time.
  4. Sprinkle liberally with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  5. Wrap the corn in foil by loosely rolling it in the foil, then tightly sealing the ends to allow it to steam inside the foil packet.
  6. Grill over high heat for ten minutes, turning once.

If you are grilling meat at the same time you are grilling your corn you can easily move the corn in foil to the top rack of your grill so that you can grill the meat on the bottom rack. You may need to extend the grilling time to 15 minutes since it is farther from the heat.

Variations

  • add your favorite herb from your summer garden-cilantro and a squeeze of lime juice gives it a Mexican street corn vibe
  • season with paprika, Old Bay, chili powder, or Mrs. Dash instead of garlic powder
  • add finely grated Parmesan cheese before serving

Serving suggestions

Serve with your favorite grilled marinated chicken, grilled grouper, grilled BBQ glazed sausages! You can also cut the corn kernels off the cob after grilling to make a tasty corn salad!
