Ingredients
For the Wings:
- chicken wings (drum/wing split)
- salt
- black pepper
- flour
- olive oil spray
For the Sauce:
- sweet chili sauce
- light brown sugar
- soy sauce
- rice wine vinegar
- sesame oil
Step by step
- Preheat air fryer to 400°F, add parchment sheet (optional).
- Clean chicken and pat dry with a paper towel. Sprinkle generously with salt and pepper.
- Pour flour into a medium bowl. Lightly coat each piece of chicken with flour on all sides, shaking off excess.
- Add chicken to air fryer in a single layer, spray with cooking oil. Cook for 6 minutes and spritz with additional cooking oil.
- Cook for an additional 5 minutes and then turn, spritz that side with cooking spray. Let cook for 5-7 additional minutes until crispy.
- While the wings are cooking, add all of the sauce ingredients to a sauce pan and bring to a low boil. Stir for 3-4 minutes and set aside.
- After wings have cooked 15-17 minutes, remove them and brush them with sauce.
- Return to air fryer for an additional 4 mins (for a very crispy and sticky wing). Alternatively, you can skip that last fry time and toss the wings in the sauce
- Serve with leftover sauce and enjoy!
Tips for Best Results
- Make sure the wings are completely dry before seasoning and coating.
- Coat the wings evenly with flour for the best crisp.
- Don’t be shy with the olive oil spray to ensure even cooking.
- Don’t crowd the wings in the air fryer basket, the hot air needs to be able to circulate around them, work in batches if necessary.
- Toss the wings in the sauce while they are still hot for flavor absorption.
Variations
- add some Sriracha, hot sauce, or red chili flakes to the sauce
- mix minced garlic into the sauce for an extra layer of flavor
- garnish the wings with fresh herbs like cilantro or parsley or sliced green onions before serving
Serving suggestions
For a full meal, serve them with a fresh green salad, some crunchy coleslaw, or a side of crispy sweet potato fries.
If you’re hosting a party, they go great with a platter of veggies and dip, some loaded nachos, crockpot spicy queso, or even a big bowl of guacamole and chips. The sweet and spicy flavor of the wings pairs perfectly with a variety of dishes.

Storage
Store leftover wings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. To reheat, pop them back in the air fryer for a few minutes to regain their crispiness. Avoid reheating them in a microwave, as it can make them soggy.
