  • Italian seasoning
  • salt
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • marinara sauce
  • beef broth
  • sour cream
  • colby jack cheese
  • rotini

Step by step

This recipe is super easy, here is the step by step but feel free to skip to the bottom of the page for the printable recipe card.

  1. Set water to boil and cook pasta according to package directions in a separate pot while you make the sauce.
  2. Brown the meat and drain any excess grease.
  3. Add onion and cook until soft, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add garlic, Italian seasoning, Worcestershire and salt and cook for one minute.
  5. Add beef broth and scrape the bottom of the pan to deglaze it and get all that tasty flavor!
  6. Stir in the marinara and simmer 5 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in sour cream, drained pasta, and cheese.
  8. Enjoy!

Tips for best results

  • use a large skillet so it doesn’t overflow when you stir in the pasta
  • don’t skip the deglazing portion of the instructions! all those brown bits at the bottom of the pan add a ton of flavor

Recipe variations and substitutions

  • use tomato sauce instead of marinara-you may need to add more seasoning to up the flavor
  • add sliced mushroom or diced bell peppers when you add the onion
  • stir in diced tomatoes
  • substitute mozzarella, cheddar, or Mexican blend cheese for the colby jack
  • use cream of mushroom condensed soup, heavy cream, or half and half instead of sour cream
  • top the dish with fresh basil and/or parmesan cheese
  • use a different type of pasta like macaroni, spaghetti, or bowties
  • omit the cheese all together

Ingredients

  • 11 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons minced garlic, about 3 cloves
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded colby jack cheese
  • 16 ounces rotini

Instructions

  1. I LOVED this recipe. I did make some modifications to meet my family’s diatery restrictions, gf, df, low saturated fat. I used ground white meat chicken, gf spiral noodles, replaced the sour cream with home made ricotta from cashew nuts to make it creamy and vegan Follow Your Heart cheddar vegan cheese. It was so incredible. Definitely will make again.






  2. Yummy! When do you put the drained ground beef back in the skillet.
    I added the seasoning (minus salt, because I Forgot it) and Worcestershire sauce to the onions. Then I added the broth to deglaze, followed by marina sauce, cooked ground beef. I simmered it for 5 minutes. I combined the drained noodles, pasta mixture, sour cream and cheese.
