Description

This Heaven on Earth Cake combines soft cake cubes with smooth vanilla pudding and whipped topping. Every bite is airy, creamy, and full of cherry flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3.4 oz box instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 1 ½ cups whole milk
  • 8 oz sour cream or plain greek yogurt
  • 2 (10 oz) angel food cake loaves
  • 21 oz can cherry pie filling
  • 8 oz tub Cool Whip
  • Sliced almonds

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the pudding mix, milk, and sour cream until smooth. Set aside.
  2. Spread half of the angel food cake pieces into an even layer in a 9×13 baking dish.
  3. Top it with ⅔ of the cherry pie filling and spread it out evenly over the cake. Then top with the remaining cake pieces.
  4. Pour the vanilla pudding mixture on top and spread into an even layer.
  5. Add an even layer of Cool Whip on top and drop spoonfuls of the remaining cherry pie filling. You can make swirls using a butter knife or skewer if you like.
  6. Refrigerate the cake for 4 hours, or overnight. Add sliced almonds on top before serving.

Notes

  1. Try making different flavors by using different canned pie fillings, different pudding mix flavors, or different nuts for topping.
  2. If you have the time and ingredients, you can make your angel food cake and whipped topping yourself.
  3. This same recipe can be used to make trifles or individual dessert cups.
