Description

Sausage Gravy Casserole is a hearty breakfast casserole made with biscuits, sausage gravy, eggs, and cheese baked together until golden and bubbly. It’s an easy make-ahead recipe that’s perfect for feeding a crowd, holiday breakfasts, weekend brunch, or breakfast for dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground breakfast sausage
  • (1) 8-count refrigerated biscuits
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • red pepper flakes, pinch
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 6 large eggs
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and spray a 9×13 baking dish with nonstick spray.
  2. In a large skillet, cook and crumble the ground sausage until fully cooked. Drain and set aside.
  3. Melt butter in a medium saucepan, then whisk in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes.
  4. Add salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes, then slowly whisk in the milk.
  5. Cook on medium heat, whisking often, until the gravy thickens.
  6. Cut the biscuits into quarters and layer them in the prepared baking dish.
  7. Stir about ¼ of the sausage into the gravy.
  8. Sprinkle the remaining sausage over the biscuits, then top with shredded cheese.
  9. In a bowl, whisk together 6 eggs and heavy cream, then pour over the casserole.
  10. Pour the gravy evenly over everything.
  11. Bake for 35–40 minutes, until cooked through. (Check the center with a fork to ensure the biscuit dough is done.)
  12. Let sit for 5 minutes before cutting and serving.
