a.k.a. the vegetable my Bigger Bug will eat. In droves. In heaping spoonfuls. Before he eats anything else on his plate. And then ask for seconds and thirds. Eat your veggies just took on a whole new meaning!!
I am almost embarassed to share this with you. I don’t even know if it counts as a “recipe”. But since you’re already here, I might as well share my secret for the best green beans EVER. Go on, {try this} … oven roasted green beans!!
oven roasted green beans
Baking dish + several cans of green beans (cut or french) DRAINED + several pats of butter + a sprinkle of garlic salt + several hours in your oven at 350* = caramelized stands of green bean loveliness. (Who ever thought I would write a green bean equation?!)
Stir them around a bit every now and then so that each green bean gets a shot at that dark brown caramelized perfection. This is not an exact science recipe (despite the equation above) … you can bake these at 375* or even a little higher if you are baking something else at the same time.
I stock up at the grocery store when canned veggies are on sale. Since these cook down quite a bit, I usually use 3-4 cans for our 4 person family and there are no leftovers. For this round of pictures, I used the green and yellow wax beans and they were equally delicious. These pair perfectly with a rustic meat loaf, grilled chicken, steak or even burgers … definitely my easiest, go-to side dish.
Thanks to my friend Karen for sharing her grandmother’s cooking technique and for introducing me to my food pyramid best friend!!

Looks good to me! I always thought you had to roast stuff on a high temp to carmelize. Can’t wait to try it!

never done it this way and so gonna try it – thanks for sharing….is it really in there for a couple hours?
keri @ shaken together says
Yep, we really just put them in a while before our main dish is done and let them caramelize to perfection. You could probably crank the heat up some to speed up the process!

Yum!! I sauteed green beans a lot for a side dish. Basically just burn ’em on the stove and season to taste. Yum yum!
Thanks for the comment on my blog!! I really appreciate comments. 🙂 I’m trying for it to be a DIY summer, using little to no money if possible but using up what I have. I have sold some old, unused items that I’ve been selling so that’ll help pay for my DIY supplies.
