It is the time of year that my skin cannot make up its mind. I figure that with 36 years under its belt, it should be able to decide if it wants to be oily or dry.  Oh no, it is a fun mix of the two that it a little tough to manage.  But, since I’m stuck with it, literally, I have decided that I just better work with it and treat it well.  So, to {gently} combat those dry patches of skin on my face, I mixed up an easy to make at home sugar scrub!

It’s probably no surprise that the lavender in this recipe is a Young Living essential oil.  It is just my absolute favorite.  It is in these relaxing lavender bath salts and in the moisturizing body wash with lavender and coconut milk that I made.  The fragrance of lavender is calming, relaxing and balancing.

Honey is also anti-bacterial and anti-fungal.  It is known to accelerate healing and has historically been used to treat skin conditions.  It is lavender’s perfect partner in crime for this gentle lavender honey scrub.

Gentle Lavender Honey Scrub

  • 1/3 cup super fine granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 4-5 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 10 drops Young Living Lavender essential oil

Stir all ingredients together.  This made exactly enough to fill a small 4 oz. mason jar/jelly jar.  Store in a cool, dark place.  (I keep mine under our bathroom sink.)

How I use it:  First, since it is so warm in Florida still, the coconut oil is liquid, so I use a popsicle stick to recombine the lavender honey scrub. Then, I scoop out a small amount onto my fingertips and gently slough away dead skin on my forehead, the sides of my nose and the dry spots on my cheeks. Before I rinse my face, I use any extra scrub on my cuticles and hands!  Then, I rinse my hands and face thoroughly with warm water.  Finally, I use a soft towel to pat my face and hands dry.

My tips:  You do not need to apply much pressure at all – let the super fine sugar do the exfoliating.  The scrub may be a little clumpy due to the honey and sugar – no biggie!  Any clumps broke right up when I rubbed them between my fingertips before using the scrub. Also, just to be safe, I would avoid your eye area.  And finally, you know your skin – if it is typically super sensitive, then you may only want to use this scrub on your hands and cuticles.  Which is still awesome since it definitely leaves them SO soft and moisturized!

  4. Hello there.
Just wondering, is it possible for me to substitute the lavender essential oil with lavender tea? Will the substitution from oil to water change its quality of lifespan? Plus, instead of coconut oil, can I use olive oil? Thank you, in advance. Have a nice day.

  5. This sounds wonderful! I know that coconut oil has a scent… can you smell the coconut in this or does the lavender mask the coconut?

    1. Hi Darcy,

The batch I made was by my shower for weeks with no issues. If you are making it for holiday gifts, you could certainly wait until a little closer to the holidays, but I didn’t have a problem with shelf life.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  6. Hi, I wanted to know how this scrub is for sensitive skin. I would like to gift this to a few friends, but I want to make sure it won’t be too harsh for their face. Also, would you say this was good for all skin types or more for dry skin types?
