Every great get together has to have great appetizers! Right? I am always on the look out for interesting new small bite recipes. I pin a ton of them on my savory stuff Pinterest board. Things like warm brie with crackers, 7 layer dips, savory meatballs, a new twist on salsa, anything with feta cheese … there is just something about those small indulgences that break the ice, get people talking and create a sense of welcome. So, in the spirit of family and the upcoming holidays, I am sharing one of my favorite appetizers that will definitely get your guests breaking bread together!
Homemade Italian dipping spices!
The recipe that I am sharing for Italian dipping spices is just our favorite blend of spices … you can certainly adjust the amounts, add more pepper for extra heat or even add in a spice or two. You will definitely taste the garlic in this blend! But nothing says family and good friends like garlic breath, right?
When you are ready to serve the spices, place 1 1/2 teaspoons of the spice blend on a shallow dish or plate and drizzle with 3 tablespoons of olive oil. Serve with small rounds of fresh bread or crispy bread sticks.

- 3/4 teaspoon rosemary
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes

Pulse all ingredients in the bowl of a food processor until well combined.
Place in small jar and store in the refrigerator.
Place 1 1/2 teaspoons of spices on a shallow dish and drizzle with 3 tablespoons of olive oil.
Serve with rounds of soft bread or thin, crispy bread sticks and enjoy!
In a small basket or pretty gift bag, place ja ar of Italian dipping spices, a shallow dish, a small bottle of good quality olive oil, a teaspoon and a loaf of soft bread.
These homemade Italian dipping spices make a thoughtful hostess gift, too. Package up your special blend of spices in a cute little jar (I love the mini swing top jar I snagged at World Market), pick up a loaf of fresh bread from your local bakery, snag a small bottle of olive oil and attach a teaspoon and a handmade tag with the instructions.
Do you have any go-to hostess gift ideas?
I’d love to hear about them … leave a comment with your brilliant ideas!
