Passion tea lemonade is my favorite drink, especially on a hot summer day. It’s so refreshing, the perfect combination of fruity herbal tea and tart lemon!

As much as I love it though, I’m just too darn frugal to buy one every day, it’s too much money! Luckily you can make it at home at a fraction of the cost with this Starbucks copycat recipe, every bit as good as the real thing.

Why I love this recipe

First off, let’s talk about what makes Starbucks’ Passion Tea Lemonade so darn good. It’s the perfect balance of the tart flavor of the lemonade with a burst of fruity passion tea flavor.

It’s my favorite cold drink in warm weather. And guess what? Recreating this iconic drink is easier than you might think, you only need a few simple ingredients!

Ingredients

  • Tazo Passion Tea – this herbal tea has flavors of hibiscus flowers, orange peel, rose hips, passion fruit flavors and cinnamon spice
  • Lemonade – homemade, store-bought, or from a drink mix
  • Apple Juice – the secret ingredient that sweetens the tea without added sugar or simple syrup

Step by step

  1. Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a large pot. Add 3 Tazo Passion Tea bags to the boiling water and allow to steep until the tea is dark red in color and very fragrant, about 10-15 minutes. Remove the tea bags carefully with a slotted spoon.
  2. Allow the hot tea to cool.
  3. Mix together equal parts of the unsweetened passion tea, lemonade, and apple juice in a large pitcher. Chill and serve over ice cubes.

Tips for Best Results

  • choose your favorite lemonade brand if using store-bought, I like Simply Lemonade or Minute Maid Light Lemonade or Crystal Light mix
  • experiment with the flavors, try strawberry lemonade, limeade, or other fruit juice in place of the lemonade, or use a different herbal tea mixed with lemonade
  • I like this drink sugar-free but for a sweeter iced tea add a little simple syrup, liquid cane sugar, granulated sugar, or even maple syrup to the mix according to your taste preference
  • If entertaining garnish the drink with a mint sprig or lemon wedge for a pretty presentation

Storage

Store the iced passion tea lemonade in a covered pitcher or sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

  1. I love this post! Especially since I ran a Starbucks for a good 10 years. 🙂 I love hearing outsiders’ views. It’s true too, we used to drink Passion Tea Lemonade and Passion Tea Apple Juice like it was going out of style. There’s really nothing better on a hot day. Great recipe!

  2. Tazo Passion Tea is my absolute favorite! I can’t get enough either… I’m definitely going to have to try this out!

  3. I love this Tazo Passion tea, sounds so refreshing. I am sure it so much cheaper to make it at home.

  4. SO simple – thanks for the tip! And yes, I hate ordering at Starbucks! I always ask for Small, Medium or Large because that is just common sense to me and those names make absolutely NO sense and sound so pretentious, haha!! Love this recipe – and that it’s light 🙂

  6. I will have to try this. I have been buying the Tazo Passion Fruit iced tea bags from Sprouts or Kroger. It makes a pitcher of tea. I will have to add this combo to it. My sons like this tea so I never get much when I make it.

  7. This sounds perfectly refreshing! I love their passion fruit tea, but not the price 😉 Thanks so much for sharing this. I’d love to have you link it up to our All Things Thursday Blog Hop that’s live right now. Hope to see you there!

    1. Hi Crystal – I picked mine up at Target but I believe I’ve seen that at our Publix, too. Hope you find them soon and thanks so much for stopping by!

  14. I have never seen Starbucks put apple juice in it. I make it in a ice tea maker I used 5 Tazo passion tea bags for the 3 quart pitcher, 3/4 to 1 cup of sugar, and about half a jug of simply lemonade ( I only use simply lemonade, tried others and didn’t like them).

    1. Hi Emily – I haven’t had anyone let me know that they have, but you could definitely replace the lemonade with water!
