Oh it’s that time! Bring on the beach days and Spring picnics, family get togethers and potlucks! We are shaking off winter here in Florida … flowers are starting to bloom, the humidity is creeping back and that means more time spent outdoors. And that means more time together with friends and family. This weekend, we are heading to a big (no really, at least 30 of us!) ol’ family Easter egg hunt and lunch and I know exactly what my contribution to our shared meal will be …

Now, you know that this is not my first dessert dip rodeo. I have oodles of them shared here … Strawberry Marshmallow, Piña Colada, Loaded Carrot Cake and even Banana Cream Pie! But this Key Lime Pie Dip? Is a citrus-y super star!!

The key to making this dip extra special: using ACTUAL key lime pie pieces in the dip!

Ingredients

  • frozen Key Lime Pie
  • instant lemon pudding mix
  • milk
  • whipped topping
  • Your choice of dippers: graham crackers (shortbread cookies or pretzels)
  • Lime (optional for zest and garnish)

Step by step

Rather than thawing out the frozen pie, we’re going to chop it up and make dip!

Tip: By keeping the pie still a bit frozen, it makes it easier to cut the pie up into bite sized pieces and keeps those pieces together as they are folded into the dip.

  1. Remove pie from freezer and allow to thaw about 10 minutes.
  2. While the pie is thawing, whisk together milk and pudding mix.
  3. Allow pudding mixture to set for a minute or so.
  4. Fold in thawed whipped topping – mix just until pudding mixture and whipped topping are combined.
  5. Cut two slices (1/4) of the pie into bite sized pieces.
  6. Gently fold the pieces of pie into the dip.
  7. Spoon dip into serving bowl.
  8. If using the lime, grate fresh lime zest over the top of the tip and garnish with a lime wedge.
  9. Serve with graham crackers, shortbread cookies or pretzels.

I made a quick video to show you how to stir together this yummy dip, too! {It’s my first video, so be kind, ya’ll!}

Easy, right?!

  3. Oh my gosh! I have been low carbing for a year. This dip looks so yummy I may fall off the low carb wagon. I’m going to make it and have a little taste then give it away.

  4. This looks so good and easy! I am going to make it tonight. Why did you use lemon pudding instead of a key lime pudding? Would it be too much key lime with a key lime pudding?

    1. Hi Karin – I haven’t seen key lime pudding in my grocery store, so I used lemon. But if you have key lime pudding, that should work well!

  6. So- I really want to try a key lime pie recipe- but this looks like a lemon dip with chunks of lime pie mixed in? Does it taste like lemon or lime?!

    1. Hi Brooklyn – it does have a lemon pudding base (because I haven’t found a lime pudding mix anywhere) but the lemon taste is mellowed by the addition of whipped topping and with all of those chunks of key lime pie, it definitely tastes like key lime to me. If you like citrus, you should like this dip 🙂

  7. Omg!!! I made this today for a Memorial Day BBQ! It was a hit! I found coconut Key Lime pudding at Walmart, it was amazing! Will be making it again! Thank You so much for sharing!

  8. Hi! I’m making this today. Looks amazing. Question: what does NaN/NaN cups of milk mean? How much milk for this recipe?

    Thanks!

  9. Ok there was a total of 11 people that had this after dinner and everyone of them commented on how good, lite, tasty and not overly sweet this was. I couldn’t find any key lime or lime pudding so I went with lemon, also made it in a Graham cracker pie crust. I made it with a mature 4yo grandchild so making it as a pie gave portion control for all. Good recipe! Will make many times more. So refreshing on a hot summer day.
