{create this} DIY glitter reindeer art with Tulip Shimmer Sheets #TulipShimmer

I love to decorate for Christmas!  Red is my favorite color, so I was pretty much made for Christmas!  I decorate with tradition colors (red/white/silver) in our living room which fits in perfectly with our chocolate brown couch and red coffee table.  This year, I decided to add a rustic winter Christmas theme to our living room … think pine cones, birch bark and winter animals like deer, foxes and cardinals!

I wanted to create some winter art work and when I received a box full of sparkly, glittery Tulip goodness from ILoveToCreate, I knew the Tulip Shimmer Sheets were the perfect product to use for this … DIY glitter reindeer art with Tulip Shimmer Sheets!!

Before I get started with the tutorial, take a look at all the awesome crafty treats that showed up on my front porch!!  Santa came early to my house … and he brought shimmer!!  Tulip Shimmer Sheets, Tulip Metallics fabric paint, Tulip Fashion Glitter, Tulip Fabric Markers and more!

Alright, now back to our glitter art … time to {create this}!

Materials Needed:

  • frame (thrifted or new)
  • fabric scrap to fit inside the frame (I used an old cozy sweater!)
  • Tulip Shimmer Sheet (I used the silver shimmer sheet)
  • Reindeer head silhouette (I used this one) or your favorite holiday shape
  • Cardstock & Sharpie
  • Iron (set on dry) and a thin cloth to use for pressing (I used muslin)

I started with one of my favorite chunky red frames – I found two gold frames at a garage sale spray painted them red.  They made their debut with some Valentines art here and here.  I also hunted up a charcoal gray sweater from my fabric scrap stash.  I cut a piece of the sweater to fit over the cardboard insert … I love the cozy feel of the sweater fabric in the frame!

Next, I did an online search for deer head silhouettes and found this free graphic.  I love the rounded face and the ears :)  I resized it in a Word document and printed it on card stock.  I cut it out and double checked one last time that it would fit …

Then, I used a regular black Sharpie to trace around the deer head onto the silver Shimmer Sheet and used regular scissors to cut just inside the marker lines.

Then, following the simple directions, I laid a piece of muslin over the shimmer sheet deer and used a dry iron to iron the shimmer sheet deer onto my sweater scrap.  I pressed down for 40 seconds on each section of my deer and carefully checked to make sure the deer was ironed on … it sure was!  This could not be easier!

Once my glitter reindeer was ironed on my sweater fabric scrap, I slid the fabric around the frame inserts (I removed the glass and actually tucked it between two of the cardboard inserts) and secured it inside the frame.

This project has inspired me to add a little more sparkle and a lot more glitter to my rustic winter decorating this year … stay tuned for another project or two using all of these amazing products!!
