{create this} manly munch mix & printable tags: tasty father’s day gift

If you have been around a while, you will know that I call my hubba hubby “The Saint.”  After a co-worker who joked that if my hubby can put up with me, he must be a saint.  He does and he is, ha!
So, the Saint is of course a father.  Which means we celebrate him in a few short weeks.

AAAARRRGGGGHHHHH!  He is probably the toughest man to buy for EVER.  He doesn’t really read.  Or have a crafty-ish hobby that I can buy junk for.  He doesn’t mind clothes but to him, they are a necessary evil.  He likes pay per view MMA fights (no fun!), seafood (yuk!), sports (out of the question now thanks to his seriously broken right foot) … do you see where I’m coming from?

Bbut there is one thing about him that I indulge when it is gift giving time.  That man is hot.  Spicy.  Caliente, even.  I mean, he likes spicy, hot and caliente food ;)   We have given him assortments of hot sauces, wing sauces, hot peppers, spicy condiments … and this year, we won’t disappoint!

Let’s {create this} tasty Father’s Day gift … spicy manly munch mix with printable gift tags!

I have had this recipe for Spicy Saltines (aka “Firecrackers”) bookmarked from Miss Zoot for a couple of years, just waiting for the right time to make them.  Since I wanted my firecrackers to be part of the manly munch mix, I switched out saltines for oyster crackers (though mini saltines would be awesome, too), added wheat chex cereal (The Saint’s favorite part of regular chex mix), crunchy wasabi peas and habanero almonds and this oh-so-manly munch mix was born!!

And here is your how-to:

oyster crackers with a kick aka firecrackers
Mix together 1 cup vegetable oil, 1 ranch dressing packet, 1 T garlic powder and 1 T red pepper flakes.  Place one 10 oz. bag of oyster crackers (or 3 sleeves of saltine crackers or a box of mini saltines) in a large gallon zipper bag (outta bags?  I used a bowl with a lid!), pour on mixture and mix crackers around to coat them evenly with the spices.  Wait 20 minutes and flip bag again.  Wait and flip another time or two.

Mix together:

  • firecrackers (recipe above)
  • 1 cup wasabi peas
  • 1 cup habanero almonds (or spicy dry roasted peanuts, smoked almonds …)
  • 2 cups wheat chex cereal (or cheese crackers, mini pretzel twists …)

Place in jar, add a scoop, attach a tag and let the munching commence!  Since Father’s Day is right around the corner, this is a fun and easy gift idea to package for all the men in your life!  Slide a generous scoop of the manly munch mix in a cello bag, slap on a length of duct tape and stick on a tag!

But wait!  What tags?  THESE TAGS –  manly munch mix free printable!!!  I’ve made three tags with a few cheeky sayings (“some like it HOT”, “no napkins allowed” & “eat it like a man”) in black, red and blue … just print on white cardstock, trim and attach!

This munch mix would also make a great “manly” favor for a co-ed baby shower or wedding shower and it is a perfectly spicy little addition for a game night get together or summer time BBQ!  Go on … make your man some manly munch mix!!
