It is officially the first day of summer!! Let the flip flops, suntans and BBQs begin! And we're smack dab in the middle of KITCHEN WEEK at the Bloggy Olympics!! Check out what I've shared so far: mini reuben sandwiches, hotsauce-icles (hot sauce popsicles!) and my 3 favorite kitchen tools!
What is more perfect to take to all those patriotic summer get togethers than cupcakes?! No surprise here, but I love cupcakes!! Easy to bake, easy to transport, individual servings that don't require plates or silverware ... they are pretty much the perfect dessert. I figured we could all use a few quick ways to give those cupcakes a patriotic makeover.
So raid your craft supplies, grab a box of flat toothpicks and let's {create this} ...
5 five-minute patriotic cupcake toppers!

1. thread or twine fireworks
![]() |
| Tie and knot red, white and blue thread/twine around a flat toothpick, fluff and done! |
2. washi tape flags
3. star spangled letters
![]() |
| Use a star punch and some patriotic paper to give your cupcakes the star treatment. Add letter stickers to spell USA or any patriotic message! |
4. 3-D stars
![]() |
| Punch 4 star shapes and fold each in half. Adhere the four star together (back to back) and slide onto a flat toothpick! |
5. patriotic pinwheels
Cute! Quick! Inexpensive! Celebratory! What more can you ask for?! Oh, and the cupcakes pictured are a triply coconutty concoction that I shared here :)
Get ready for 5 guest posters who are also sharing their phenomenally patriotic ideas beginning next Monday, June 25th!! That week will end with a patriotic link party where you can share your own patriotic projects, recipes, party ideas, fashion, DIY and sewing tutorials - old and new posts will be welcome!!
This project or recipe was shared at the blogs on my Link page!
